      <title>Intelligent Management of Exhibition Building Space: Structural Analysis and Crowd Evacuation Based on Space Syntax in the Dongguan Naval Battle Museum</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Taking Dongguan Naval Battle Museum as a typical case, this study uses space syntax to conduct an in-depth structural analysis of space, study the topological relationship and connectivity pattern inside the exhibition building, and provide valuable insights for the spatial organization of the exhibition building. In addition, the study also explores the crowd evacuation aspect. Based on the understanding of spatial structure through space syntax, this study found that: (1) Dongguan Naval Battle Museum should use variables such as selectivity, global integration, harmonic mean depth, visual connectivity, first-order moment index, visual integration, and pedestrian flow simulation as much as possible to improve the environmental quality and help people evacuate smoothly. (2) The exhibition hall should guide arrival and evacuation in space with the highest or second highest values of variables such as connectivity, intensity, controllability, and pedestrian flow simulation. (3) Space No. 1, as the central exhibition hall, not only has the highest visual connectivity and high recognizability but also performs best in the first moment index and the second moment index, indicating that it has strong spatial attraction and wandering potential. This study helps to improve the knowledge level of exhibition building management and provides practical guidance for improving the overall performance of such spaces.]]></description>

      <title>Tram- and train-induced vibrations in the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The analysis of the traffic-induced vibrations on the floors of the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome is shown in this paper. The interest for this case study is related to the importance of this historic building and its contents, but also to the presence of particular vibration sources, i,e, a tram track and an underground train, in addition to vehicular and bus traffic. The differences between the two vibration sources and the comparison with the effects of ambient vibrations are analyzed, both in terms of amplitudes and frequency content. The measurements were done using seismometers, deployed in the portion of the museum adjacent to the tram line. The results show that the vibrations induced by the tram are much higher than the ambient vibrations and characterized by a different frequency content. The effects of the train are even much more evident but only in the portion of the building above the underground railway and frequencies even higher than those due to the tram are apparent in the recording spectra. The dynamic response of the structure is influenced very much by the vibration source features but also by its extremely long rectangular shape and the deformability of the floors. The results of this study are very useful to better manage the deployment of art objects, which are extremely vulnerable to vibrations at frequencies higher than those of interest for the building, in the museum or to design an antivibration protection system.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[This paper presents a summary of the beginning of railroading in America, the origin of the B & O Railroad Museum's 1884 Passenger Car Shop (Roundhouse) with its unusual features and the sequence of events that led up to the partial collapse of the low roof on February 16th and 17th, 2003. Included is a summary of the weather conditions that caused this catastrophic event. An analysis of the failure mechanisms based on field investigation and engineering evaluation is thoroughly discussed. The emergency measures taken to save the building along with the subsequent design and reconstruction of the Roundhouse are presented herein.]]></description>

      <title>Strategies for the urban regeneration of the Museum of Islamic Art Park in Doha, Qatar</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Doha has witnessed rapid urban growth, an increasing population rate and a greater reliance on cars as the primary mode of transport. This has caused social and environmental problems related to a sprawling urban pattern, increased levels of air pollution and high traffic congestion, among others. One of the key issues related to urban land use distribution is the lack of connection between green spaces and the neighbouring urban areas. Using the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) as a case study, this research investigates the existing condition of the MIA Park and recommends strategies for implementing urban regeneration and enhancing the accessibility and connectivity of green spaces in Doha. The data is collected through: (1) site observations; (2) unstructured interviews; and (3) visual material (ie photographs and maps). Findings suggest that accessibility to the MIA Park is compromised due to a lack of comprehensive urban design elements and inefficient intermodal integration. The findings provide useful insights for drafting policies for urban and green space integration in a heavily car-dependent Middle Eastern city scenario. The findings contribute to understanding the landscaping of Doha city, namely, how public green spaces are integrated with the urban areas, and how this aligns with the aims of Qatar’s national planning strategies. This study reveals that Doha lacks a well-connected green network that is accessible to all modes of transport, especially pedestrians. National planning strategies need to consider the significant accessibility and connectivity issues in the green spaces of Doha to achieve sustainable development.]]></description>

      <title>Rethinking urbanism in Doha: The Qatar National Museum transit-oriented development</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The urban environment of Doha has witnessed a remarkable transformation during the past few decades, which has been triggered by economic growth due to oil and gas revenues. Doha has attracted foreign investment to participate in the urbanisation of the city, specifically in the construction of the smart public transport system (ie Bus Transit [BT], Lusail Light Rail Transit [LRT] and the Doha Metro). As a result, mega projects and transit villages were developed along the public transport system, especially around the major metro stations. These developments align with the national development strategy defined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV-2030). This research investigates the development and implementation of transit villages around the transit systems (also known as the transit-oriented development [TOD]) at the Qatar National Museum (QNM) metro station in Old Salata neighbourhood. The research design focuses on: (i) a review of the relevant literature; (ii) the site analysis; and (iii) the generation of an integrated strategy for the development of the transit village of Old Salata. The proposed master plan for QNM TOD is supported by the need for preserving the architectural heritage, through a compact and mixed-use urban form, where multimodal transport systems, green spaces, public amenities and a pedestrian-friendly environment are provided. In turn, the insights from this investigation will contribute to the implementation of an urban planning approach for shaping a liveable community in Doha.]]></description>

      <title>The location of airport an added value to improve the number of visitors at US museums</title>

      <description><![CDATA[There are no scientific studies in the context of airports and museums relationship, which analyze the impact of airports for identifying the relationship between museums and air accessibility, as well as promotion campaigns to attract visitors and passengers at museums and airports. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the locations of US airports in the top 20 US museums, due to connectivity, accessibility, and technological change that aviation and museums activities are experiencing because of pandemic crisis. Moreover, this study evaluates promotion and travelling exhibitions factors, with the aim of attracting more visitors to museums and how these two variables can affect to airports. This research addresses this knowledge gap by providing discussions and justifications on how airports and museums should fortify their interaction and cooperation to develop joint marketing strategies. Results show how airports provide accessibility, connectivity, and frequencies of flights through airlines, and they have a direct impact of number of passengers’ arrivals on destinations and museums. Indeed, the findings revealed the need to implement joint strategies alliances by DMOs, airports, and museums, to increase the number of tourists in cities, particularly in this time of economic uncertainly. Airport and airlines operators could encourage to museum managers to incorporate customized travel packages and commercial discounts together through their official website and apps. These commercial strategies remove unnecessary intermediaries and increasing the profit margins.]]></description>

      <title>Employing waterborne autonomous vehicles for museum visits: a case study in Amsterdam</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Amsterdam is a culturally rich city attracting millions of tourists. Popular activities in Amsterdam consist of museum visits and boat tours. By strategically combining them, this paper presents an innovative approach using waterborne autonomous vehicles (WAVs) to improve the museum visitation in Amsterdam. Multi-source urban data including I Amsterdam card data and Instagram hashtags are used to reveal museum characteristics such as offline and online popularity of museums and visitation patterns. A multi-objective model is proposed to optimize WAV routes by considering museum characteristics and travel experiences. An experiment in the Amsterdam Central area was conducted to evaluate the viability of employing WAVs. By comparing WAVs with land transportation, the results demonstrate that WAVs can enhance travel experience to cultural destinations. The presented innovative WAVs can be extended to a larger variety of points of interest in cities. These findings provide useful insights on embracing artificial intelligence in urban tourism.]]></description>
