      <description><![CDATA[With the increasing train speed more powerful headlamps are demanded to prevent accidents especially at highway crossings.  The light intensity distributions of the various headlamps installed in the actual locomotives were measured at the neighborhood of the Shinmachi Station of the Takasaki Line.  The photometric property of the sealed beam headlamps is superior to that of the ordinary type.  To secure good illumination, two or more headlamps are to be installed in a locomotive.]]></description>

      <title>A COMPARATIVE INVESTIGATION ON THE CONSPICUITY OF THREE RAILWAY SHUNTING LANTERNS</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Three types of shunting-lanterns are mutually compared as to intensity, beam divergence and flash character, with conspicuity as criterion.  The models with so called "sandershead" and "whelenhead" turned out to be better than that with "fresnelhead", but it was difficult to decide between the first two.  In fact it was found that both models fell short in light intensity in comparison with present day standards.  Suggestions are made to explore further possibilities for improvements.(a)]]></description>

For the specific case of a tunnel at the planned new subway station "Kralingse Zoom" at Rotterdam-East these possibilities are described.       <title>YARD LIGHTING SYSTEMS</title>

      <description><![CDATA[File name is ENMP, ENLX. Programs combine to determine light intensities of a system lighting a yard.  ENMP develops "contours" from grids which could be for elevations as well as of equal light intensities and could, therefore, be used in land levelling, or borrow pit problems.  Input describes the area to be lighted and grids peculiar to the lights in the system.  Output is a matrix of light intensities over the yard.]]></description>
