      <description><![CDATA[AN INVESTIGATION WAS UNDERTAKEN TO STUDY THE CALDERON DIRECT SHEAR TEST /AAPT VOL. 22/ AS A METHOD FOR OBTAINING SPECIFIC VALUES OF THE PROPERTIES OF COMPACTED BITUMINOUS MIXTURES. MIXES CONTAINING THREE TYPES OF COARSE AGGREGATES AND TWO DIFFERENT MINERAL FILLERS WITH LOCAL SAND FINE AGGREGATES AND 85/100 PEN. ASPHALT CEMENT WERE TESTED BY THIS METHOD AS WELL AS BY THE MARSHALL, HVEEM AND IOWA STABILITY TESTS. VALUES OBTAINED BY THE CALDERON TEST FOR C AND THE ANGLE OF INTERNAL FRICTION WERE HIGHER THAN THOSE REPORTED BY CALDERON AND THOSE OF THE SUGGESTED CRITERIA SUGGESTED BY THE ASPHALT INSTITUTE. RATES OF LOADING WERE NOTED TO MATERIALLY AFFECT VALUES OBTAINED. NO CORRELATION WAS OBTAINED WITH RESULTS OF OTHER TEST MIXES. THE METHOD, HOWEVER, WAS FOUND TO BE MORE SENSITIVE TO THE FILLER- ASPHALT RELATIONSHIP THAN PRESENT METHODS, AND WITH FURTHER STUDY INDICATES PROMISE AS A METHOD OF MIX PROPERTY EVALUATION. /NAPA/]]></description>
