      <title>Technical Notes on Intact and Damage Stability Properties and Decks Distribution of Floating Hotels</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This technical note article presents the static stability considerations in determining the number of decks and the general arrangement of a floating hotel barge according to standard rules. An increased number of decks elevates the vertical center of gravity, potentially compromising stability and increasing the risk of capsizing. Additionally, in emergency situations, the simultaneous movement of a large number of passengers to one side of the hotel barge can lead to accidents and disasters. Therefore, stability considerations in hotel barges differ significantly from those of commercial ships. To address this, the stability characteristics of a hotel barge have been simulated as a case study. The general arrangement of the hotel has been evaluated to determine the centre of gravity, ensuring that heavier decks and tanks are placed in the lower sections, while lighter components are positioned on the upper levels. The simulation results indicate that the floating hotel model can safely accommodate up to nine decks, while maintaining a minimum reserve of buoyancy of 30% and adequate metacentric height. Finally, the article provides key design recommendations for improving the stability and general arrangement of floating hotel barges.]]></description>

In addition, the model assumes utilities related to choice of trip dates and travel mode.       <description><![CDATA[This paper presents a novel methodology for assessing emergency response capabilities in coastal cities in China amidst the challenges posed by global warming, rapid tourism industry growth, and increasing flood occurrences. The approach integrates flood simulation, traffic big data, and web-based path navigation to evaluate the emergency response of the Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) to tourist hotels in Shanghai. The empirical study highlights the significant impact of transportation conditions, hotel locations, flood inundation intensity, and urban FRS distribution on emergency response effectiveness. It further demonstrates that existing traffic conditions heavily influence flood-induced emergency accessibility, with severe congestion adversely affecting spatial accessibility. The study also reveals that flooding events and real-time traffic can cause delays in emergency responses by altering optimal routes. Consequently, selecting the most efficient routes becomes crucial for enhancing a city’s emergency response capabilities. The results validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, which holds significant promise for improving emergency response capabilities in urban tourism settings when faced with disasters.]]></description>

      <title>The agglomeration patterns of different lodging segments around a transportation hub</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution and temporal evolution of the lodging industry around a major transportation hub, focusing on the agglomeration patterns of different types of lodging establishments, namely budget hotels, economy hotels, upscale hotels, and peer-to-peer accommodations. The study takes the high-speed rail (HSR) station in Beijing, China, specifically the Beijingnan Station, as the empirical setting. The findings reveal a gradual increase in the degree of agglomeration in the lodging industry since the opening of the HSR station, with the distribution center shifting closer to the station every year. The distribution pattern surrounding the station follows a six-ring structure, where budget hotels are located in the innermost ring, followed by economy hotels in the second ring, and upscale hotels in the outermost ring. Notably, peer-to-peer accommodations exhibit a dispersed and sporadic distribution pattern, which sets them apart from other types of lodging establishments.]]></description>

      <title>Reputation Management as a part of Online Branding Infrastructure of luxury hotels on the Adriatic Coast - pre and post Covid-19 perspective</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The search for optimal approaches to building the online infrastructure of luxury brands is an area that takes on an extremely dynamic dimension in times of accelerated digitization. The aim of the study is to investigate changes in online reputation levels for selected luxury hotels on the Adriatic coast, comparing their status levels before and after the Covid-19 pandemic. The research sample is narrowed down to the 15 best hotels on the Adriatic coast, selected according to the ranking of the prestigious British periodical. For comparison, the authors use a reference study from 2019, which the authors follow up with an empirical analysis carried out using the same methodological procedure. Specifically, the authors use extended sentiment analysis in its complex TOR form. The results of the analysis and subsequent comparison indicate that there was no significant change in the level of online reputation of selected luxury brands during the pandemic. All monitored partial parameters show a high degree of optimization. Based on the findings, strategic recommendations for the field of tourism are drawn up, at the same time key reputators are identified, which must be regularly monitored in the online reputation management process. The study thus serves as a knowledge base for practice, as well as a possible methodological base for further investigation of the impact of the pandemic on the infrastructure of brand development in the online environment.]]></description>

      <title>Smart Supply Chain Strategies: Determinants and Relationship with Supply Chain Integration and Sustainable Supply Chain Performance</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This article offers an evaluation of smart supply chain strategies and their potential implementation in developing countries.  The authors discuss the effect of smart logistics, the latest smart technologies, and supplier innovation on integration and sustainability in supply chain performance. They interviewed 165 supply chain professionals within the tourism, hospitality and related industries in Pakistan and analyzed the data using PLS-SEM.  Some of the factors that were found to be important include synchronization between different departments, development of trust and information-sharing, identification of customer needs, and capacity to innovate products.  The authors conclude that smart logistics and technologies provide businesses with real-time tracking of movement information as well as the goods themselves, throughout the supply chain.  With this transparency, businesses can make informed decisions and become more competitive.]]></description>

      <title>Game-theoretic analysis of the impact of crew overnight hotel cost on airlines’ fleet assignment and crew pairing</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Crew costs account for a high proportion of the total operational costs of an airline. The cost of overnight stay for the crew at a hotel is an important additional cost. To address this problem, this study establishes an integrated model to depict the interaction between the fleet assignment problem and the crew pairing problem. Because this cost is largely determined by the price agreed by the agreement hotel group, the authors further present a Stackelberg price game model to capture the interdependence between the integrated fleet assignment and crew pairing of airlines and the price game among hotel groups that provide accommodation services for airlines. The authors combine the idle time re-allocation with a spatio-temporal graph convolutional network to ensure the robustness of crew pairing. The solvability of the model is improved using the Reformulation-Linearization Technique. To obtain the overall Nash equilibrium of the Stackelberg price game model, the authors design a heuristic algorithm based on a decomposition algorithm and a proximity search algorithm. A case study is made to demonstrate that the robust model is cost-saving for the airline.]]></description>

      <title>Forecast of Time Variant Parking Demand by Time Sequence Models for Multi-Type Hotels in Urban Centers</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Focused on the parking spaces of leisure and convention hotels in urban centers, this research is conducted in the following sequence: a comparison in the fluctuation characteristics of parking demand between weekend days and work days is made in the beginning. Afterwards, the demand forecasting models in time sequence method are established. Then, a case study of the parking demand forecasting on a workday for convention hotels is applied. As the evaluation indicators as well as error analysis indicate, an ARIMA (3, 1, 0) model is rather appropriate for the prediction of the short term parking demand of convention hotels on a workday. As the results reveal, the first difference sequence of the parking demand for convention hotels is confirmed as stationary series, while an original stationary sequence is for leisure hotels, whether it be a workday or a weekend day. The parking demand of leisure hotels possesses lower amplitude fluctuation and therefore is relatively more stable.]]></description>

      <title>Historic Pier Restoration and Repurposing: Iconic City Pier Transformed to World Class Luxury Hotel</title>

      <description><![CDATA[A developer acquired the historic City Recreation Pier property in Baltimore, Maryland, with the intent to build a world class hotel. A condition assessment deemed the existing pier unrepairable at the time of purchase. The pier served the surrounding community in several historically important roles; therefore, preserving the existing pier was important to the owner and the Maryland Historical Trust. A new pier was to be built that would envelope the existing pier, preserve its significance, and support the future loads of the renovated hotel building. Unique construction challenges were encountered working around and preserving the existing structure. Atypical design and construction techniques were implemented to overcome these challenges. Discovery of historical artifacts during construction were incorporated into the design and narrative of the new world class facility now known as Sagamore Pendry Baltimore.]]></description>

      <title>Using user-generated content data to analyze tourist mobility between hotels and attractions in cities</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Attractions and hotels are the two most important elements in tourism activities. However, there is a lack of in-depth analysis of tourist mobility between hotels and attractions. Meanwhile, new means of data collection are opening up opportunities for disclosing the mobility patterns between hotels and attractions. This paper aims at analyzing the network structures and mobility models of tourist mobility from attractions to hotels (TMAH) and tourist mobility from hotels to attractions (TMHA), by using the user-generated content data collated from an open tourism web service. Then the differences between the two tourist mobilities are compared. Through the empirical study of Nanjing, it is found that the influence of distance on the two mobilities is different. The distance has a significant influence on TMAH, and the mobility conforms to the power law distribution. TMHA is more influenced by the ranks of hotels and attractions, and the mobility confirms to the gravity model. The highlight of this paper is to use the new network data to reveal the network structure and mobility laws of the special tourist mobility between hotels and attractions from the perspective of difference comparison.]]></description>

      <title>Hotel Parking Demand Forecast and Sharing Strategy Analysis</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The purpose of this paper is to establish a reliable model to predict the parking demand of a hotel parking lot in real-time and then analyze the feasibility of opening shared parking spaces. Based on the cluster analysis of hotel parking demand on weekdays, this paper introduces the time series model of econometrics to predict the short-term parking demand. The model calibration and parameter estimation are carried out on the Eviews 8.0 platform, and the appropriate model is selected for the real-time prediction of parking demand. Combined with the measured data, the fitting is proved to be ideal. This paper puts forward the concept of the cumulative frequency of the proportion of vacant berths. According to the prediction results, the judgment conditions of hotel shared parking are given, and the sharing time period is reasonably divided, and good results are obtained.]]></description>

      <title>ACS-OPHS: Ant Colony System for the Orienteering Problem with hotel selection</title>

      <description><![CDATA[In this paper, an algorithm, called ACS-OPHS, is proposed to tackle the Orienteering Problem with Hotel Selection (OPHS). This algorithm is strongly based on the Ant Colony System (ACS); however, it differs from the ACS in the way the paths are constructed, in tuning a parameter of the transition rule and in the pheromone trails updating rules. The ACS-OPHS uses a bi-directional search strategy and employs a novel and fast approach to identify all feasible intermediate hotels in an offline manner. Moreover, in the ACS-OPHS, the relative importance of exploitation versus exploration is determined according to the progress of the algorithm in approaching to the global optima. The ACS-OPHS is a simple and well-performing approach to solve the OPHS. Concerning the standard benchmark instances, it outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms in several instances and produces competitive solutions in reasonable time. This algorithm also improves the best known results of four instances with unknown optimal solutions.]]></description>

      <title>Spatial and temporal analysis of shared bicycle use in Limassol, Cyprus</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Cities around the world are moving away from the car-centric infrastructure, urban design and planning policies prevalent since the 1950s and promoting sustainable mobility as an alternative, including cycling. As such, Bicycle Sharing Systems (BSS) have emerged as a transport innovation across the globe. Cycling modal share however remains low in most Southern European island cities. These cities exhibit certain characteristics considered as barriers to cycling, such as hot summers and high humidity, hilliness, and car-oriented culture and infrastructure. Despite this, BSS and policies promoting cycling have emerged in this region as well. These have the potential to provide alternatives for those marginalized by car-based mobility and to reduce traffic related diseases and injuries, noise and air pollution, which can contribute to an improved quality of life for all citizens. Using the Mediterranean island city of Limassol (Cyprus) as a case study, the utilization of bicycle sharing is investigated by constructing regression models to assess the influence of spatial and temporal factors on the demand for BSS use at stations. From the regression models it appears that land use factors such as residential, commercial and park land use, as well as the presence of the beach and cycling paths positively influences frequency of use, as does higher network connectivity. While higher tourist arrivals have a positive effect, the presence of hotels in a 300 m buffer around the stations does not. Higher rainfall, as well as higher temperatures, are associated with a decrease in BSS use. Explicitly incorporating spatial dependence, in Spatial Auto-Regressive (SAR) models, led to the formulation of models with comparable or better explanatory power, when compared to the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) models. The insights from the regression models can be used to inform policies promoting cycling and the design and planning of BSS (expansion) in Limassol and other cities.]]></description>

      <title>Parking Requirements for Limited-Service Hotels</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Hotel development continues in response to our increasingly mobile society and the need for temporary lodging associated with business and pleasure travel. One challenge for planners is to properly determine limited-service hotel parking needs in the absence of significant data and to consider the impacts of ride-app services such as Uber and Lyft. In response to this challenge, Walker Consultants (Walker) conducted a study documenting the parking requirements of limited-service hotels in a specific geographic market. This article describes Walker's empirical study of five limited-service hotels (“hotels”) located in South Florida, which was performed to measure actual parking demand. The study is based on 35 total field-data-collection observations, seven different observations for each hotel, one for each day of the week, all performed at or near the 1 a.m. peak hour of occupancy for hotel guest rooms.]]></description>

      <title>Ho.Re.Ca. logistics and European medieval structured cities: A search for cost generators</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This paper examines the current organisation of Hotel-Restaurant-Café/Catering (Ho.Re.Ca.) logistics in medieval structured cities from a microeconomic perspective. The paper aims to distinguish Ho.Re.Ca. specific cost generators and to provide different stakeholders with guidelines on improving the efficiency and sustainability of delivery operations. Therefore, a Ho.Re.Ca. specific costs function has been developed and calculates both internal (economic) as external (social and environmental) costs. The developed cost function follows a 3-steps approach: exploratory expert interviews and observations, the development of the cost function and, validation by the same business experts. The main findings are that mostly the characteristics of the goods determine the way Ho.Re.Ca. goods are delivered nowadays. However, the location of demand and supply for the goods and the specific handling conditions also have a significant influence. The following specific cost generators are distinguished: all labour-based activities rise the internal costs structures substantially. Congestion and city quality issues are identified as major external costs generators. Originating from these results, transport operators should focus on improving labour-based activities such as the service time by investing in e.g. innovative (un)loading equipment. For governments, the internalisation of congestion-related externalities by e.g. road pricing is decisive.]]></description>
