Pharmacology and Toxicology of Ethyl Alcohol
This chapter will discuss effects of ethyl alcohol on the skin, gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, liver, kidneys, endocrine system, and central nervous system. The impairment of driving ability in regards to vision, auditory discrimination, sensory effects and reaction time for both motor vehicles and motorcycles are presented. The chapter reviews the effects of alcohol combined with such drugs as acetaminophen, amphetamines, analgesics/narcotics, antidepressants, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, caffeine, cocaine, antagonists, and marijuana. and the effects when combined with other drugs. The chapter concludes with a discussion on alcohol tolerance and the treatment of alcoholism.
