Prediction of rutting in China
Rutting has become a severe problem in China, stemming from a huge increase of traffic over the past ten years. In order to evaluate an asphalt mixture’s resistance to rutting, China currently uses China Standard T0719, which is a wheel tracking device. Outside of China, however, China Standard T0719 is relatively unknown. This research compared China Standard T0719 to other wheel tracking devices, including the Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device, the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer, the French Pavement Rutting Tester, and the UK Wheel Tracking Device. The research also presented five sets of field rutting data with corresponding data from China Standard T0719. There was a relatively weak correlation between field rut depth and Dynamic Stability measurements from T0719 after one year, but T0719 was able to properly rank three field mixtures over a six year time period.
