Visibility
The papers presented in this issue of the Record are concerned with the driver's ability to see and be seen. A wide range of the elements of "seeing" are discussed including: fixed source lighting, vehicular lighting systems, polarized headlighting systems along with the importance of properly aligned headlamps, the increased safety factor of daytime headlamp use, the visibility of various contemporary sign materials, the most advantageous lighting design criteria for different roadway geometries, the delineation potential of colored pavement, and the correlation between the visual environment and the safety record of urban traffic flow as evidenced by the reduction of accidents.
