THE CAMERA SYSTEM FOR RADIOGRAPHY OF ALUMINO-THERMIC RAIL WELDS IN TRACK
Broken rails present a risk to the safe operation of trains and to the travelling public. They also present a risk to reliability and train performance. Development work conducted to date, verified by site trails have demonstrated conclusively that radiography of Alumino-Thermic rail welds on site can be conducted safely and effectively in a railway environment. Further, it can be demonstrated that the resulting images produced may be used to identify any metallurgical defects in rail welds, which is not possible using the current non destructive testing techniques. The images may be retained as a record of asset condition for future reference. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123713.
