GLASS FIBERS ADD DURABILITY TO POLYMER-MODIFIED SURFACINGS

The addition of glass fibers can bring durability to polymer-modified surface treatments and interlayers by creating a resilient, stress- absorbing waterproof membrane that may provide longer-lasting surfaces and bridge alligator-cracked pavements. This article discusses how these fiber-reinforced membranes offer enough tensile strength and flexibility to absorb movements in the pavement and delay pavement cracking. The sprayed in-place membrane cures quickly enough that a road may be opened to traffic only 15 minutes after placement. The article also discusses testing and applications.
