DISTURBED STRESS FIELD MODEL FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE: FORMULATION. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

A discussion of an earlier paper with the aforementioned title by F.J. Vecchio, published in this journal (Volume 126, Number 9, September 2000), is provided. The author presented the disturbed stress field model and stated that the modified compression field has 2 main weaknesses: 1) the enforced alignment of principal stress and strain directions and 2) the handling of the crack shear stress. While the discussor agrees with the author's 2nd assessment, he disagrees with the 1st assessment, as it lacks the support of experimental evidence. Closure from the author is also included.
