JOINT PLANNING FOR 1980

In the early 1960s, an efficient and dynamic transportation system was considered to be of vital importance to long-term U.S. domestic economic growth. This article discusses the importance of joint planning in determining future transportation needs on both regional and national levels. The focus is on efforts made in the preparation of a comprehensive plan by the Southeastern Virginia Regional Planning Commission to guide the growth and development of the metropolitan area encompassing the cities of Norfolk, Princess Anne, Virginia, and Suffolk, in Virginia.
