PILOT ACTIONS AND TASKS: SELECTIONS, EXECUTION, AND CONTROL. IN: PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF AVIATION PSYCHOLOGY

Despite the fact that automation has effectively taken over much of the control of aircraft, an understanding of the nature of flight dynamics and how they impose limits on human information processing remain extremely important. This paper focuses on the pilot's actions and tasks and then describes the execution of the most important of those tasks - those involving flight control and navigation. The paper provides a fairly intuitive and psychological description of the nature of flight control.
