BRIDGE MANAGEMENT IN NAMIBIA: EXISTING INITIATIVES AND THE WAY FORWARD
This paper reviews bridge management in Namibia through a stand-alone bridge management system that has been successfully used to identify distress in road structures from among a number of potential problems, and also details how the records in the system have been utilized for the detailed inspection of suspect structures. Specific reference is made to 2 case studies with design and environmental defects and the corrective measures implemented. Further development of the bridge management system as part of an integrated road management system incorporating other sub-systems is briefly discussed.
