THE DIFFERENT NATURE OF ACCIDENTS IN THE URBAN, VILLAGE AND RURAL AREAS IN BOTSWANA (1995--1998 ACCIDENT STATISTICS)
The aim of this study was to conduct an analysis of the traffic accident data for Botswana in order to better understand the types of accidents occuring in cities, villages, and rural areas, as well as their main contributing causes. Accident data for the period 1995-1998 was analyzed with the use of a Transport Research Laboratory tool called Microcomputer Accident Analysis Package Version 5. Results are discussed, indicating that traffic accidents are not influenced as much by the geometry and layout of the road as they are by road user behavior.
