EFFECTS OF ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY MEASURES: A PRESENTATION OF THE TRAFFIC SAFETY HANDBOOK
The 3rd edition of the Norwegian Traffic Safety Handbook contains a presentation of 124 road safety measures in areas such as: policy instruments, road design, road maintenance, traffic regulation, vehicle design, vehicle inspection, driver training, public education campaigns, and police enforcement and sanctions. In addition to presenting evidence concerning the safety effects of these measures, the handbook also provides information on other selected issues such as mobility, environmental impacts, and cost-benefit ratios. This paper presents some selected examples from the Handbook on the effects of road safety measures considered to be relevant to the First Road Transportation Technology Transfer Conference in Africa.
