PTP: AN EXTRAORDINARY SUCCESS STORY FROM THE WORLD OF BOATING SAFETY
This article discusses the importance of partnerships in the operations and success of the United States Coast Guard's Office of Boating Safety. Through these partnerships, the office has been instrumental in saving the lives of 29,000 recreational boaters over the past 30 years. A definition of partnership is provided, and the qualities of successful partnerships are discussed. The Coast Guard's partners have included a diverse array of public and private entities. After sharing many successful partnerships, the Office of Boating Safety is moving forward with one of its largest partnership endeavors ever: a new National Recreational Boating Safety Outreach Program called, "You're in Command. Boat Safely!" The program is supported by five Operational BoatSmart partners: the Coast Guard, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, the National Safe Boating Council, Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadrons and the National Water Safety Congress.
