INNOVATION IN MOVABLE BRIDGES: SOPHISTICATED DESIGN AND ANALYSIS WITH AN EYE ON TRADITION
Over the last 2 centuries, some extremely interesting examples of different types of movable bridge designs were realized in iron, concrete, or steel. However, in more recent years, lack of creativity and aesthetics have characterized movable bridge construction in general. This paper briefly describes the evolution of the most common types of movable bridges, details the latest developments in this field, and presents a case study of the design and analysis of an innovative movable bridge.
