REHABILITATION OF THE AIKEN STREET BRIDGE
This paper discusses the proposed rehabilitation of the Aiken Street Bridge over the Merrimack River in the City of Lowell, Massachusetts. The primary goals include upgrading live load capacity to HS20 and improving seismic performance while maintaining the architectural character of the historic structure. The rehabilitation includes complete bridge deck reconstruction, strengthening of the existing floorbeams and seismic retrofit of the existing tone masonry substructure.
