SEISMIC RETROFITTING OF BRIDGES IN NEW YORK STATE
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has established policies covering minimum requirements for resisting the seismic forces for new and existing structures. Based on the importance, location and other pertinent features, additional requirements are considered on a project-to-project basis. This paper presents an overview of the seismic design criteria for seismic retrofitting of conventional existing highway structures as part of the rehabilitation program of New York State. The scope of rehabilitation work considers the seismic vulnerability of the existing elements and aims at improving the seismic resistance and overall performance by retrofitting.
