This paper examines the initial plans of a number of early stage integration systems, both controlled by logistics sellers and independent firms. The paper provides a definition for a true electronic marketplace for logistics services, describes its effect on various aspects of the logistics industry, and demonstrates how an electronic marketplace could develop and be successfully implemented in the complex logistics industry.
