EXAMPLE 6: PRESTRESSED BEAM. IN: EXAMPLES FOR THE DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL CONCRETE WITH STRUT-AND-TIE MODELS

This paper provides the design of the end region of a prestressed beam in accordance with Appendix A of ACI Code 318-02 provisions. Two alternatives are considered, one with straight strands and debonding toward the ends of the member in order to control stresses at transfer, and the other with draped strands. Strut-and-tie models corresponding to each of the 2 alternatives are developed and analyzed, and the reinforcement is proportioned to resist the calculated internal forces. Anchorage length requirements were a critical factor in selecting the configuration of the truss models.
