EXAMPLE 1A: DEEP BEAM DESIGN IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACI 318-2002. IN: EXAMPLES FOR THE DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL CONCRETE WITH STRUT-AND-TIE MODELS
This paper describes a deep beam example, supporting 2 concentrated loads at the top, that was designed in accordance with Appendix A of the ACI 318-2002. The analysis and design using the strut-and-tie model were performed in an efficient and straightforward manner. The strut-and-tie methodology provides a framework to help better understand and assess the flow of forces and the resisting mechanisms. It is also a valuable tool for achieving proper detailing of ductile concrete members.
