CASE STUDIES OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT FAILURES DURING CONSTRUCTION

Case studies of failures of partially completed, flexible pavements located on clayey subgrades of two highway routes are described. At several locations along each route, the flexible pavements exhibited cracking, deep rutting, and deflections under construction traffic loadings. This paper summarizes the findings of field and laboratory geotechnical investigations and analytical studies that were performed to determine the causes of the failures.
