IMPLEMENTATION OF NEVADA'S OVERLAY DESIGN PROCEDURE
In 1992, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) started the implementation process of a mechanistic overlay design procedure. This paper briefly describes the NDOT overlay design procedure and the various steps involved in order to complet the process. The major part of the paper discusses the implementation phase of the procedure. Since the procedure highly depends on Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) evaluation of the existing pavement section, the paper discusses the various steps and procedures currently used by NDOT in order to successfully implement the design analysis. As in any newly developed design procedure, the NDOT procedure has its own implementation problems. Two case studies are presented and fully discussed in terms of the overlay analysis and the verification process that was implemented.
