LANDSLIDES: INVESTIGATION AND MITIGATION. CHAPTER 25 - PERMAFROST

Chapter 25 is concerned with landslides in relation to permafrost. Section 1 explains what permafrost is and where it is located. Section 2 discusses the temperature distribution in a permafrost region and describes the two principal zones in North America: the continuous permafrost zone in the north and the discontinuous permafrost zone in the south. Section 3 examines the physical properties of permafrost. Types of permafrost slope movements are discussed in Section 4 and methods for controlling the stability of permafrost slopes are addressed in Section 5.
