PROPOSITION OF A METHOD FOR PIER INSPECTION USING MICROTREMOR
Inspection of pier-basement is very difficult. Furthermore, the traditional inspection of piers to observe the change of predominant frequency cannot be practically applied for many bridge piers. This paper proposes a new method that can easily and accurately estimate the vulnerability of piers. It uses the nature of rocking vibration of piers. If the rocking vibration of piers becomes predominate, it can be considered that the pier's stability decreases. The paper reports the method of estimating the pier's vulnerability from the relative content of rocking in the whole vibration with some experimental results.
