THE DIFFERENT TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES IN PARIS AND LONDON: PLANNING POLICY AND FINANCE

The London Research Centre (LRC) and the Institut d'Amenagement et d'Urbanisme de la Region d'il-de-France (IAURIF) undertook a major comparison of the planning and transport systems of Paris and London. The results of the research have been published by HMSO in June 1992 (see IRRD 853442). What this paper does is advance the comparative material to future projects and assess the difference in approach between the two cities in terms of planning and finance of new schemes. Special attention is given to Docklands and the East Thames Corridor and development policies in Paris such as Marne-la-Valee. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 863439.
