COST EFFICIENT SHIP MANAGEMENT-- MANAGEMENT AND OBJECTIVES: THE USE OF MODERN TOOLS
The author sets out the objective for which his management consulting firm strives--namely, fault-free ship operation at low cost. He then proceeds to discuss the attainment of this objective. Aspects touched upon include: crew motivation; management by objectives; classification costs; extended machinery life; better control of spare parts with reduced costs; a more efficient purchasing system; better integration; reduced repair cost and down-time; ship-to-shore reporting systems; and computerized maintenance systems that are available on a lease basis for older vessels.
