HYDRODYNAMIC ASPECTS OF PROPELLER/STATOR DESIGN
A theoretical method for determining optimum circulation distributions for propeller/stator combinations and for determining the circumferential variation in circulation for non-axisymmetric stators is presented. Comparisons of theoretical predictions and water tunnel measurements are provided for a given propeller operating behind an axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric stator. Theoretical comparisons are made between a hypothetical propeller designed to operate without a stator, and an optimum propeller/stator design. This comparison includes predictions of efficiency, unsteady loading and cavitation.
