A NEW GENERATION OF MARINE ENGINES WITH VERY LOW MASS/POWER RATIOS AND THEIR APPLICATION ON FAST CRAFT
This presentation comprises a description of CRM's-Castellanza (Italy) 18/D-SS/BR2 engine. The engine achieves a low mass/power ratio, is designed for direct coupling with water jets, and is capable of operating with minimum fuel consumption. It is pointed out that with its reversing reduction gear, the engine is particularly suitable for semidisplacement, planing and semiplaning hulls, and for special hydrofoils.
