EVALUATION OF A RIDE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR SES
The research program discussed in this paper is directed toward producing a strategy and design method for improving the control of pitch and heave motions of surface effect ships (SES) in response to wave excitation in a seaway. A suitable motion control device was selected and installed on a test model, and a control algorithm was devised and implemented on a microcomputer connected to the device. Test results of the model using the controller are presented, and are compared with tests of uncompensated craft. The use of a computer simulation to assess the effectiveness of a similar control device installed on a full-size craft is also discussed.
