NAVIGATION WITH AN INTEGRATED BRIDGE
To meet demand for reduced crew size and system integration, Sperry Marine Inc. developed an advanced integrated bridge system that links all ship electronic equipment together. This description of the system focuses on Sperry's 501 TR/GPS satellite navigator and GPS core module, which is an essential element of the system. The 501 utilizes both the Transit satellite system and the evolving capabilities of the Global Positioning System to enable accurate navigation under conditions of reduced manning.
