THE SEMT-PIELSTICK PC40 4-STROKE
When the Pielstick engine was introduced in France after World War II, the new type of medium-speed diesel engine was an almost immediate success. The developments in the design of the engine that have occurred since then, culminating in the SEMT-Pielstick PC40 4- stroke engine, are reviewed. There is now greater fuel efficiency and more flexibility for adapting to particular applications. The design has been simplified, while incorporating advanced technology. A table of engine characteristics for several models and a schematics of the engine and of the recovery power turbine accompany the text.
