CRASH INJURY INVESTIGATION AND INJURY MECHANISMS IN ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
This review aims to cover all aspects of crash injury investigation and the application of the results. It summarizes and interprets results of the accident-injury studies carried out worldwide, with particular reference to the UK situation, and research by the Transport Research Laboratory, universities, professional bodies, industry and international conferences and committees. The following subjects are included: 1) national accident statistics in the UK; 2) application of crash injury information; 3) methodology of data acquisition; 4) the car occupant; 5) the motorcyclist; 6) the pedestrian; 7) the pedal cyclist; 8) HGV and coach occupants; 9) controlled impacts, use of dummies and cadavers, modelling, and 10) primary safety.
