COMPUTERIZED SOLUTION FOR SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION SERVICE VOLUMES

A computerized procedure has been developed to calculate service volumes for each lane group at a signalized intersection that produces an average stopped vehicle delay consistent with the desired level of service. The characteristics of the procedure are described. Two major limitations of the proposed procedure are discussed; both limitations involve the iterative processor determination of service volumes for shared lane groups with permitted left turns.
