RELATION OF TUBE MANUFACTURING VARIABLES TO CORROSION AND CORROSION PRODUCT RELEASE RATES OF INCONEL 600 IN A SIMULATED PWR PRIMARY WATER

Variations in production mode for Inconel 600 tubing exposed in simulated primary pressurized water nuclear reactor heat exchangers were evaluated with respect to corrosion product release rates. Careful descaling procedures are essential and their influence on rate calculations considered. Techniques for proper evaluation of corrosion product quantities are described for exposures up to 76 days. Differences in release rates could be related to electron microscopy examination of sample surface states. SEM micrographs can be used to catalog tube manufacturing processes and assist in classification of tubing. /Author/
