SHAPE CHARACTERISTICS OF PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE CURVES
An examinastion of the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Offficials) Road Test performance curves and other reported performance histories of in-service pavements reveal that shapes other than the convex pattern are not uncommon. This paper examines the various possible shapes of pavement performance curves and the parameters that affect them, using the AASHTO performance model. It is noted that the shape characteristics of pavement performance curves in load and time domain plots are not the same. The shapes of load domain plots are a function of pavement characteristics, whereas those of time domain plots are also affected by the time history of traffic loadings. These and other findings are discussed.
