TAI KOO CAVERN, HONG KONG - PERFORMANCE OF A LARGE METRO EXCAVATION IN A PARTIALLY WEATHERED ROCK MASS. LARGE ROCK CAVERNS - PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, HELSINKI, FINLAND, 25-28 AUGUST 1986. VOLUME 1

Tai Koo cavern is a major station excavation and forms part of the island line of the Hong Kong mass transit railway. The cavern is situated in partially weathered granite and was constructed within a hillside which was subsequently removed to leave minimal cover to the completed station. The paper describes the geological conditions encountered and the cavern excavation method, support and observed performance. The effect of the removal of the overlying hill is then described, together with a final performance evaluation of the completed structure. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 810647.
