SOME RESULTS OF ENGINEERING-GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE UNDERGROUND IN PRAGUE TUNNEL UNDER THE RIVER VLTAVA. LARGE ROCK CAVERNS - PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, HELSINKI, FINLAND, 25-28 AUGUST 1986. VOLUME 1

The Engineering Geology, National Entreprise, Prague, carried out engineering-geological investigations on the underground line under the Vltava River in 1978-1983. The objective was to obtain data for the specification of geological and geotechnical parameters of the line in order to project the most advantageous drifting method from the viewpoint of security and technology. Furthermore, it was necessary to obtain engineering geological data in the course of drifting of the advanced gallery of both track tunnels. In addition, the Engineering Geology, Prague, was interested in getting necessary information during the left track tunnel drifting. Engineering-geological investigation on the underground line underlying the Vltava River provided a lot of information applicable to other localities. It has been proved that even in conditions of the Prague Ordovician it is quite feasible to drive an underground working several meters below the surface with a flowing water without driving an advanced gallery.
