PREDICTION OF R/C PANEL AND DEEP BEAM BEHAVIOR BY NLFEA
The results are described of the application of a simple constitutive relationship to predict the behavior of a number of panels tested by Vecchio and Collins (1982). The validity of the constitutive relationship having been thus verified for this type structure, it is then used to predict the behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams with or without web reinforcement. A similar technique has been successfully applied to shallow beams, both with and without web reinforcement. Therefore, the technique appears adequate for use in practice with structures where plane stress conditions prevail. It was also found that estimates of failure loads of net reinforced panels based on equilibrium equations without imposing compatibility requirements are in reasonable agreement with those obtained by NLFEA (nonlinear finite element analysis) and observed in tests.
