TECHNOLOGICAL AND ENGINEERING BREAKTHROUGHS - REAL OR "BUCK ROGERS"
A perspective on immediate and long-term transportation technologies is presented. The author describes the nature of developing and implementing new technology, the general timeframe for technological developments, and the strong emphasis on short-term payoffs rather than long-term gains. "Buck Rogers" technology is gradually being realized. Transportation is in a period of technological evolution. Present concerns include transportation engineering manpower.
