TRANSIT ROUTING AND SCHEDULING STRATEGIES FOR HEAVY-DEMAND CORRIDORS (ABRIDGMENT)

Efficient routing and scheduling strategies for heavy-demand corridors are described. Examples are given. Four strategies pertain to local service: shortturning, restricted zonal service, semirestricted zonal service, and limitedstop zonal service. Zoning of express services and deadheading of both local and express service are also discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of the strategies, and conditions favoring their adoption, are discussed.
