USE OF GEOTEXTILES IN DRAINS

Geotextiles are taking their place as filter in civil engineering works. In addition, they are used as separator between two media (soil and aggregates) and as reinforcement. An in-situ experiment was carried out using indigeneous fabrics to envelop a gravel drain. Four different types of soil ranging from sandy gravel to silty clay as base materials were studied to determine the suitability of the fabrics as filter in a subsurface drain. Results of the experiment are presented. (TRRL)
