SURFACE AND SUB-SURFACE DRAINAGE REQUIREMENTS OF ROADS

The types of surface and sub-surface drainage used in tamil nadu are described as are the factors influencing the selection of drainage type: rainfall intensity, surface run-off, water table fluctuations, changes in subgrade moisture content, soil permeability. A case study is presented of the investigation and design of a suitable sub-surface and surface drainage system for a bypass which had failed due to lack of adequate drainage facilities. (TRRL)
