MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS OF ROADS IN J & K REGION AND EFFORTS MADE TO TACKLE THEM

The author gives details of the meteorology and geology of the region which consists of the interior of the Lesser Himalayas and the outer portion of the Sub-Himalayas. Problems due to snowfalls and the cold climate, causeways and culverts, and inadequate maintenance grants, shortage of supervisory staff and transport are outlined. The remedial measures implemented are described together with the planning of the yearly maintenance programme and tasks of the mobile maintenance teams. (TRRL)
