EVALUATION OF STRUCTURAL CONDITION OF ROAD BLACKTOPPED PAVEMENTS FOR MAINTENANCE AND REHABILITATION REQUIREMENTS.

The structural condition of many Yugoslav roads, built some 15 years ago, now falls short of present day load requirements. Because of current economic restraints, which are slowing down the rate of new road construction, the need to maintain and rehabilitate existing roads is of great importance. The evaluation of the bearing capacity of flexible pavements in Yugoslavia is based on deflection measurements using the Benkelman beam and the La Croix deflectograph. Pavement surface quality is assessed by riding quality measurements using the bump integrator. To form an economical pavement strengthening design, based on non-destructive test results, investigations have been carried out in the study to determine the effect of environmental factors on changes in bearing capacity and riding quality of flexible pavements having different structural values.
