A SIMPLE MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DEVELOPED FOR ROADS IN RAJASTHAN

For road maintenance operations to be cost-effective it is necessary that the system be simple to operate and compatible with available personnel, materials and finance. The paper describes a management system developed by the Rajasthan PWD for the maintenance of roads in thee state. The review of the system includes a comparison of quality and level of work achieved relative to that planned. The reasons for any shortfall are noted against each item and causes discussed. Although in some cases the shortcomings observed are beyond the control of maintenance staff, it is thought useful to identify such causes to avoid setting impractical targets. (TRRL)
