QHV: THE MIRA CONTRIBUTION
The article describes an investigation of MIRA as part of the TRRL GHV programme to reduce internal lorry noise by cab structure modifications. MIRA was required to provide a 3db(a) attenuation of sound level emitted by the power unit and also to control cab noise level. Experiments on Rolls-Royce powered Foden Tractor units showed that cab noise could be reduced by fitting improved exhaust silencers and redesigned engine mounts. Noise reduction by these modifications and also cooling system fan developments are shown graphically. Individual sound pressure level increments attributable to each change in design parameters are discussed. /TRRL/
