PORE PRESSURE EQUATION FOR ANISTROPIC CLAYS
THE EFFECTIVE STRESS PRINCIPLE OF TERZAGHI IS WELL ESTABLISHED AS CONVENIENT BASIS FOR EXPRESSING THE STRESS- STRAIN AND STRENGTH RESPONSE OF SOILS. IT IS DESIRABLE TO BE ABLE TO RELATE IN EQUATION FORM THE MAGNITUDE OF THE INDUCED EXPRESS PORE PRESSURE TO A CHANGE IN TOTAL STRESS. THIS TECHNICAL NOTE PROPOSES AN EQUATION WHICH RELATES INDUCED PORE PRESSURES TO CHANGES IN TOTAL STRESSES FOR ANISOTROPIC, SATURATED, NORMALLY CONSOLIDATED CLAYS. THE PROPOSED EQUATION IS SPECULATIVE IN NATURE AND IS OFFERED TO PROMOTE DISCUSSION AND TO ENCOURAGE EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICA- TION. /ASCE/
