Evaluation of the Positive Impact on CO2 Emission and Safety Using Concrete Pavements in Italian Tunnels
The paper estimates the total energy savings (MW/year) and the corresponding reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, in tons of oil equivalent (toe), obtainable in the Italian tunnels, replacing asphalt pavements with concrete ones, highlighting how concrete can contribute in: (1) reaching the 2020 European Union (EU) target of cutting emissions by 20% from 1990 levels; (2) supporting climate change mitigation and safety in road tunnels.
